Welcome!
We are ready to prepare your taxes! We are a coalition of over 60 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide and IRS VITA/TCE free tax preparation sites. We prepare tax federal and state tax returns for individuals of all ages and most occupations.
To find a free tax preparation site near you, peruse our site listing, or dial 2-1-1 (866-444-4211) and ask for their assistance.
WHEN YOU COME FOR YOUR FREE TAX PREPARATION APPOINTMENT YOU WILL NEED:
- Government-issued picture ID for each taxpayer.
- Proof of Social Security and ITIN numbers for all individuals named on your return.
- Filled out Intake Form provided by site or download VITA/TCE Intake Sheet or AARP Tax-Aide Intake Booklet.
- Proof of bank account routing and account numbers for direct deposit or debit. (Bring a voided check, not a deposit ticket.)
- Tax information such as Forms W-2, 1099, 1098, 1095.
- All taxpayers to sign the return.
- Last year’s tax return.
The more information you bring, the more accurately we can prepare your return. If you’re not sure, bring it!
An appointment is not a guarantee that we can prepare your return. Our volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS on a very specific range of tax forms and issues. Some tax matters that are considered “Out-of-Scope” and therefore we cannot prepare include, but are not limited to:
- Self-employment if there are employees, losses, expenses that exceed $35,000, depreciation, business use of home, 1099 filing requirements, or other complicating factors.
- Hobby income or other activities not for profit.
- Complicated capital gains/losses, such as futures or options.
- Rental income.
- Royalty income with expenses if not from self-employment.
- Tax on a child’s investment and other unearned income (kiddie tax).
- Farm income or expenses.
- Some income, deduction, or credit items that are not included in our training.
- Alternative minimum tax, additional Medicare tax, or net investment income tax.
- Foreign financial asset reporting requirements.
- Any return where the answer to the digital asset (virtual currency) question on Form 1040 is “yes.”
